Located just outside downtown Bellevue in the Newcastle area, this 3,500+ square foot split-level home was in need of modernization. Built in the early 1980s, the kitchen/living/dining floor plan was dated and felt closed-off.
To improve the layout, we removed a wall and added a structural support beam, opening the kitchen to the living and dining areas. This transformed the upstairs into a light, airy space, with a vaulted ceiling and new hardwood floors, perfect for today’s aesthetic. Floor to ceiling windows in the living area lights the entire expanded room, including the kitchen area, making it appear larger and balances the dark cabinetry.
By opening the kitchen, we were able to add an island to create an expansive chef’s kitchen, fitted with a combination of commercial range/high output range hood and high-end residential appliances. Featuring a professional restaurant-quality (high-pressure) sink fixture with insta-hot purified water and a wine refrigerator utilizing space at the end of the island, this kitchen is a cook’s dream. With a clever mix of funky and traditional elements designed to suit the owner’s tastes, we were able to create a unique look for the home that is still fits solidly within good design principles.
