An addition isn’t just about “more space.” It’s about making a home flow better…live better.
We took great pains to integrate this addition into the existing design so that it looked – and worked – like it was original to the home. On the exterior, rooflines were carefully considered. Siding was meticulously matched. Window trim was updated with a fresh coat of paint so that old and new were indistinguishable from each other.
But the real magic was on the inside.
By asking the right questions, we could address the unique needs of how the family lives…and how their home needs to work. This close-knit family enjoyed watching movies and playing games together so a well-equipped media/family room with lots of CD/DVD storage was a must. For warmth and charm, we added a fireplace – making this space the perfect place to relax on a rainy evening. Just off the family room, we created a wet bar with a card table and added a guest bathroom.
From a design aesthetic, it was important to integrate artwork and artifacts from their travels to Africa. To meld the rustic memorabilia with the design, we chose a distressed finish for the cabinetry in the family room (that either reveals a large flat-panel TV or rolls to expose the true-light windows on either side of the granite-surround fireplace) and a rustic red finish for the bathroom cabinetry. It all worked well together, giving the homeowner a warm, cohesive look.
